Kittitas (pronounced 'KITT-i-tass') County is located in central Washington State. It spans from the lush forested Cascade Mountains to the upper Yakima River Valley plains and the Columbia River.
Kittitas County, WA - 01/17/2011 - Kittitas County Commissioners sign Resolution 2011-006 declaring local emergency status for flooding impacts.
Continued flooding in Kittitas county prompted the Board of County Commissioners to sign a local declaration of emergency shortly after noon today. About 30 homes, 37 roads and 1 commercial property have been impacted and a dozen families have evacuated their property. No injuries have been reported. Transportation will continue to be impacted with the following road closures; Riverbottom, Dollarway, Ringer Loop and a section of Hungry Junction at Reecer Creek. The local Red Cross is prepared to open shelters if needed.
With the exception of Riverbottom, the effected roads should open within a couple days as the waters are expected to crest in our area this afternoon/evening.
Residents are asked to report flooding problems to KITTCOM and take steps to document damage.
Sandbags are available at Fire Station 21 on the Vantage HWY, the old Price-Chopper on East 3rd in Cle Elum and Fire Station 73 on Golf Course Road.
