Kittitas (pronounced 'KITT-i-tass') County is located in central Washington State. It spans from the lush forested Cascade Mountains to the upper Yakima River Valley plains and the Columbia River.
Kittitas County, WA - 01/16/2011 - Kittitas County Emergency Management initiated voluntary evacuation in Elk Meadows and select areas along US HWY 97 due to flooding.
Snowpack, rain and warm weather has created flooding in the Yellowstone Road area of Snoqualmie Pass, Elk Meadows between Cle Elum and Easton, HWY 97 scattered between Ellensburg and Lauderdale, Salmon La Sac near French Cabin creek, areas along Reecer Creek, Manastash Creek, Dry Creek Wilson Creek, Teanaway, Ringer Loop and Dollarway. We have received about 30 reports of flooding, mostly involving driveways, roads and a few basements and outbuildings. No reports of injury or damage. Sheriff's Deputies have gone house to house in the Elk Meadows area alerting residents and offering assistance for voluntary evacuations. People cut off from the highway are asked to shelter in place and call for assistance if needed. Emergency Medical Staff are ready to provide service for those in need and Elected Officials have met to review emergency response plans if needed. Sand bag are available at Fire station 21 on Vantage HWY, Old Price Chopper Parking Lot on East 3rd in Cle Elum and Fire Station 73 on Golf Course Rd. Call KITTCOM to report flooding.
