Kittitas County, WA - 04/24/2017 - There was a great turnout Saturday during Earth Day at CWU, especially those taking advantage of the free document shredding and prescription drug take back programs provided by the local RSVP and Sheriff's Office.
There were 40 tips into the truck that were shredded at about 200 pounds each. That equals 8,000 pounds or 4 tons of personal documents that were destroyed and sent to recycling to help prevent identity theft, One hundred and thirty pounds of old prescriptions and medications were dropped off with the Sheriff's Office for disposal, keeping them out of the wrong hands and preventing them from being improperly dumped into our environment. RSVP and the Sheriff's Office are looking at another drug take back and shred event sometime in October. Old and unneeded prescriptions may also be dropped off during the week at the Sheriff's Office during business hours.
