Kittitas (pronounced 'KITT-i-tass') County is located in central Washington State. It spans from the lush forested Cascade Mountains to the upper Yakima River Valley plains and the Columbia River.
Kittitas County, WA - 11/16/2023 - This week the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office was accredited by the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs (WASPC).
To achieve WASPC accreditation, agencies undergo an extensive external audit. Outside assessors review agency policies and practices against 145 recognized best practices in every area of operations including hiring, training, criminal procedures, investigations, evidence management, lawful use of force, complaint investigations, civil rights, and constitutional standards. The voluntary accreditation process takes place in stages over at least 8 months. Accredited agencies must maintain routine proof of compliance with key standards and go through the process of re-accreditation every four years. Less than a third of law enforcement agencies in Washington have achieved WASPC accreditation. Sheriff Myers said, “We committed to accreditation because our county deserves to know their Sheriff’s Office operates by proven professional standards. We’re not foolish enough to think we know everything, and both the vast experience reflected in WASPC’s standards and the perspective of outside assessors are great opportunities for us to learn and improve. Our community has invested tremendous trust in us, and our commitment to accreditation is just one way we’re working to be worthy of that trust.”
