Unclaimed Property

The Uniform Unclaimed Property Act governs the manner in which we attempt to contact anyone with an uncashed Treasurer’s check, reissue lost Treasurer’s checks and remit unclaimed monies to the State for posting as unclaimed property. RCW 63.29

Every November 1, the County Treasurer must remit all outstanding monies for checks not cashed two or more years prior to the reporting date to the Department of Revenue as Unclaimed Property. Until this time of remittance, the payees on the attached list still have outstanding monies with Kittitas County that can be claimed from the Treasurer’s Office.

Outstanding monies for uncashed checks more than two years in the past have been remitted to the Department of Revenue. The Department of Revenue is the custodian for unclaimed property, and it administers an Unclaimed Property program to seek the rightful owners.
