All Evacuation Levels to be Removed for Jolly Mountain Fire on 9-29-17 09/28/2017

The Kittitas County Emergency Operations Center will remove all remaining evacuation levels for the Jolly Mountain Fire as of midnight Friday, September 29th. While the fire continues to burn in the remote and extremely rugged terrain along the northern perimeter, the threat to homes and private property is no longer a factor along the western, southern and eastern perimeters.

Temporary Shelter Continues to Receive Air Monitoring 09/08/2017

The Red Cross shelter located at the Putnam Centennial Center in Cle Elum at 719 E 3rd Street is continuing to receive indoor air monitoring. Indoor air monitoring from September 7, shows an “unhealthy for sensitive groups” level, which is healthier than the external air quality.

Indoor air monitoring at Ellensburg & Kittitas schools shows poor air quality 09/07/2017

Upon request of Ellensburg School District and Kittitas School District, the Kittitas County Public Health Department (KCPHD) conducted indoor air monitoring at all Ellensburg and Kittitas school buildings yesterday. Indoor air readings ranged from “unhealthy” (red) to “hazardous” (dark red) leading to the districts’ decision to close schools until at least Monday, September 11th.

At the request of the Kittitas County Emergency Operations Center, the National Guard has been activated to assist with road blocks, traffic control and firefighting efforts for the Jolly Mountain Fire. This will free up local resources that have been dedicated to the fire and emergency operation efforts.

Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office will be increasing the enforcement of the road closure located on State Route 903 as a result of increased fire personnel and response apparatus in the area.

Temporary Shelter Available with Monitored Air Quality 09/05/2017

Residents who are having difficulty escaping the poor air quality, especially those who do not have access to air conditioning during the hot weather, may use the Red Cross shelter located at the Putnam Centennial Center in Cle Elum at 719 E 3rd Street. Initial monitoring conducted in Putnum Centennial Center on Monday, September 4 showed readings of moderate indoor air quality. The Kittitas County Public Health Department (KCPHD) will be monitoring the indoor air quality at the shelter as poor air quality conditions continue in Kittitas County as a result of fires in the area.

Poor Air Quality Conditions Continue in Kittitas County 09/04/2017

Cle Elum is currently experiencing “hazardous” air quality conditions and Ellensburg has “unhealthy” conditions (as of the 8:00am readings on Monday). Smoke is from both the Jolly Mountain Fire in Kittitas County and the Norse Peak Fire near Naches. Air quality conditions have been fluctuating depending on fire activity and the weather. Smoky conditions are expected to continue throughout the week.

Update from Kittitas County Emergency Operations Center (9-2-17) 09/02/2017

The Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office has completed Level 3 and Level 2 evacuation notices in the Roslyn, Ronald and Lake Cle Elum areas, with assistance from numerous supporting agencies. Deputies and supporting law enforcement officers began the door to door notification process for nearly 2,200 residences around 11:00pm Friday and concluded mid-day Saturday. Another 2,021 residences in Cle Elum are under a Level 1 notice as the Jolly Mountain Fire continues to grow to the north.

The Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office has issued an Evacuation Level 2 notice to the entire town of Ronald and the entire City of Roslyn to the Bullfrog Rd roundabout due to changing fire conditions for the Jolly Mountain Fire.

Teanaway Meadows upgraded to Level II Evacuation 08/30/2017

Following the Level III evacuation of the North and Middle Fork of the Teanaway, the fire has continued to move south-east in the direction of the junction.

The Kittitas County Emergency Operations Center has elevated evacuation levels in the Middle Fork Teanaway area to a Level 3 “GO NOW” due to increased activity of the Jolly Mountain Fire. The fire has now moved southeast over Yellow Hill.

Kittitas County is currently experiencing air that is fluctuating between “moderate” to “unhealthy” air. As of 11:00 am today, the air quality in Ellensburg and Cle Elum was moderate.

The Kittitas County Public Health Department wants residents to be aware of changing air conditions as a result of the Jolly Mountain Fire. As of the 3:00 pm reading today, a temporary Cle Elum air monitor is showing “unhealthy for sensitive groups” air quality conditions as a result of wildfire smoke. The air monitor in Ellensburg is showing “moderate” air quality conditions.
