Kittitas (pronounced 'kit-i-tass') County is located in central Washington
State. It spans from the lush forested Cascade Mountains to the upper Yakima River Valley plains and
the Columbia River.
Once Public Works projects are identified and funding is secured, staff begins designing it. County staff
handles most aspects of the design of a project. However, the expertise of an engineering consultant
is often used, especially for large or complex projects. All work is performed under the supervision
of the County Engineer.
When staff starts the design phase of a project, they take the concept of the project and develop a plan,
specifications, and estimate (PS&E) for it. Staff must also consider any grant requirements, environmental
issues, right-of-way, acquisitions, and expected schedule when preparing the design.
Kittitas County has a total area of 2,333 square miles. The highest point in the county is Mount Daniel at 7,959 feet above sea level.
