Kittitas County, WA - 02/13/2017 - Mother and son struck a tree while riding on a rented snowmobile Sunday afternoon.
Sunday, February 12, 2017 abou 3:23 PM, Deputies, Search & Rescue, and Medical personnel were dispatched to an injury snowmobile accident off Forest Service Rd 4330, about 4 miles northeast from the end of Salmon La Sac Rd in the Ronald area. 50 year old Carnation resident Karen Mayfield was riding as a passenger with her 24 year old son Benjamin Mayfield on a rented snowmobile. The driver lost control and struck a tree, ejecting both occupants. The subjects were transported out by snow rescue vehicles and airlifted by helicopter to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Karen sustained life threatening injuries and Benjamin sustained serious injuries.
The responding agencies were: Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office, Kittitas County Search and Rescue, Kittitas County Fire District 7, Kittitas County Hospital District #2, and Airlift Northwest.
