Kittitas (pronounced 'KITT-i-tass') County is located in central Washington State. It spans from the lush forested Cascade Mountains to the upper Yakima River Valley plains and the Columbia River.
Kittitas County, WA - 09/13/2016 - On August 18, 2016, the Kittitas County Board of Health (BOH) and the Kittitas County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) adopted ordinances BOCC 2016-016 and BOH 2016-01, which prohibit the use of electronic vaping devices in public places
The local ordinance adds vaping products or electronic nicotine device systems to the no smoking ordinance that was passed in 2009 Vaping is no longer allowed in public in Kittitas County unless the public place is a licensed vape retail outlet where access by minors is prohibited and where vapor product sales generate at least 51% of the business’ income. To view the ordinance, visit http://www.co.kittitas.wa.us/uploads/bocc/ordinances/2016-016-ordinance.pdf. Numerous local organizations as well as other Washington State counties have implemented no vaping regulations. “We want the increased regulation on these products to decrease the message that these products are “normal” or “safe” for our young people to be using,” asserts Dr. Mark Larson, Health Officer. The Kittitas County Public Health Department (KCPHD) will be notifying local retailers and businesses about the new ordinance as well as providing signage and information about how to submit complaints for violations. With the local ordinance, Kittitas County can enforce vaping in public places similar to smoking tobacco products in public places. For more information, visit KCPHD’s website at http://www.co.kittitas.wa.us/health/programs/community-health/chronic-disease-prevention/tobacco/default.aspx. Complaints of violations can be submitted to the Kittitas County Public Health Department at (509) 962-7515.
