An Environmental Health specialist conducts annual inspections of the public
and private schools and playgrounds in Kittitas County to ensure a safe and
healthy school environment for children. A building walkthrough evaluates
sanitation issues, food handling and preparation practices, and overall
cleanliness of the facility. Additionally, construction plans (new and remodel)
for schools and new or proposed playground layouts and equipment are reviewed by
the Environmental Health specialist.
Camps and parks are visited annually. Camp inspections focus on health and
safety issues of the facilities from the bathing areas and sleeping quarters to
the kitchens and food sanitation practices. Park inspections involve a review of
the water systems, a check on water quality, an inspection of bathroom, shower,
and laundry facilities, solid waste handling practices and any potential liquid
waste problems.
