Breast and Cervical Health ProgramThe focus of this program is early detection of breast and cervical cancer. It is a program that provides eligible women with free health exams. Health exams include a brief medical history, pelvic exam, clinical breast exam, pap test, a screening mammogram, and patient education about breast self-exam and the need for regular breast and cervical screening. The Kittitas County Public Health Department coordinates eligibility for the program and exams are performed by local participating clinics. IssuesWhat is a mammogram?A mammogram is an x-ray of your breast. This x-ray can show breast changes and detect small lumps that cannot be felt. It is taken at the hospital or other location that has a special kind of x-ray machine and trained workers. What is a pap test?During a women's health exam your nurse or doctor examines your pelvic area. As a part of this exam, a small, soft brush is used to take a few cells from the cervix (the opening of the womb). These cells are then sent to a lab. This is a pap test. Facts & Figures
