Kittitas (pronounced 'KITT-i-tass') County is located in central Washington State. It spans from the lush forested Cascade Mountains to the upper Yakima River Valley plains and the Columbia River.
Kittitas County, WA - 04/01/2024 - Kittitas County Public Works has hired Granite Construction to perform paving operations on Vantage Highway beginning at No. 81 Road to the City Limits. This project entails the removal of 3” of the current roadway surface and replacing it with 3” of new hot mixed asphalt. Along with new pavement, there will be roadway, utility, and survey monuments lowered to avoid conflict with the construction equipment.
Currently, the preliminary schedule is to begin operations on April 15, 2024. The first week’s work will include: construction sign installation, survey referencing monuments and striping, and lowering of monuments. Milling of the asphalt will start April 22, 2024, just East of No. 81 Road. The milling/grinding crew will work west towards Ellensburg (1) one day ahead of the paving machine and crew, with operations on a Monday-Thursday schedule. The paving machine and crew will work Tuesday-Friday placing new asphalt in the previous day’s removal area. At the end of shift Friday one lane will be finished the entire length to City limits. The following Monday, work will start back East of No. 81 Road and repeat the process in the 2nd lane. Paving operations plan to finish in a two-week period. Beginning May 6, 2024, crews will start resetting and raising monuments, place temporary roadway marking and addressing shoulders. Around the first week of June, permanent pavement markings plan to be installed to complete the project. Please be advised that during the two-week paving operation from April 22, 2024, to May 3, 2024, traffic will be limited to Westbound travel only on Vantage Highway during active work. At the end of each work shift daily, two (2) lane traffic will be restored. Operations are scheduled to begin working at 7:30AM each morning. Detour and additional traffic signage will be placed to assist in alternate routes.
